Types of Fees

Arts Undergraduate Society (AUGS)

Opt-outable: NO.

Amount per semester: $16.50 for full-time BA; $8.25 for part-time BA and full-time BASc

What the fund does:

This fund supports the primary activities of the Arts Undergraduate Society, including our events, services, and operating costs. The majority of this fund supports the events, tutoring, peer mentorship, and journals of the AUS’s 32 departmental associations.

Arts Undergraduate Improvement Fund (AUIF)

Opt-outable: YES. You will lose access to the Arts Lounge (Leacock B-12) if you opt out of this fee.

Amount per semester: $16.00 for full-time BA; $8.00 for for part-time BA and full-time BASc; $4.00 for part-time BASc

What the fund does:

This fund supports improvements to the physical and capital resources that Arts students use, such as the Arts Lounge and the McLennan/Redpath Library Complex. In the past, it has funded the renovations of the third floor of the McLennan library, the wall painting of the Arts Lounge, and the furniture for student association lounges and offices. In addition, portions of this fund support the operations of the Arts Internship Office (AIO), the Faculty of Arts Computer Labs (FACL), the Fine Arts Council (FAC), and the Arts Student Employment Fund (ASEF).

Arts Student Employment Fund (ASEF/AUGE)

Opt-outable: YES. You will not be able to benefit from the all employment opportunities of this fund if you opt out of this fee.

Amount per semester: $10.00 for full-time BA; $5.00 for part-time BA and full-time BASc

What the fund does: 

This fund supports academically based employment opportunities for undergraduate Arts students on and off campus through three streams:

  1. The Enriched Education Bursary Program: funds off-campus opportunities for Arts students

  2. The Work-Study program: subsidizes on-campus employers to increase study hours

  3. The ASEF application funds students who are not eligible for work-study to work on campus jobs which would otherwise be unpaid.

Arts Computer Lab Fund (ARCL)

Opt-outable: YES. You will not have 24-hour access to the Ferrier Computer Lab if you opt out of this fee.

Amount per semester: $5.50 for full-time BA; $3.25 for part-time BA and full-time BASc

What the fund does:

This fund supports computer lab facilities accessible to Arts and Arts and Science students in Ferrier Lab. Those who opt-in have 24 hour access to the study room, computer lab, and access to a free laptop loan program!

Arts Undergraduate Theatre Society (AUTS)

Opt-outable: NO.

Amount per semester: $2.00 for full-time BA; $1.00 for part-time BA and full-time BASc; $0.50 for part-time BASc

What the fund does: 

This fund supports the productions of the Arts Undergraduate Theatre Society (AUTS), the official theatre group of the AUS and an affiliate of the AUS’s Fine Arts Council. Productions from previous years include West Side Story and Sweeney Todd. The AUTS provides opportunities for students to engage in acting, producing, technical production, directing, choreography, design, and more.
