Valedictorian Application

The Application for the Spring 2026 Arts Valedictorians is now open! The deadline to apply is February 26 at 11:59 pm. 

Each year, outstanding undergraduate students in the Faculty of Arts are selected to represent their peers at the Spring Convocation Ceremonies. Applicants will be chosen on the basis of their academic record, leadership, and dedication to the McGill community. They should demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and take risks, and meet a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6. 

One Valedictorian will be selected for each of the Arts Convocation Groups. Please note that your convocation major is the Major or Honours program listed first on your Minerva curriculum record.

Who evaluates the applications?

The valedictorian selection committee, chaired by the VP Academic is composed of fellow Arts students and the Arts Dean of Student Affairs.

How is my application evaluated?

Applications are evaluated based on the following criteria: Academic Aptitude, Achievement, and Success at McGill, Student Life, Leadership, and Engagement at McGill, Overall Resilience, Determination, and Drive, Speaking-Ability and Charisma in Speech.

When will I hear back? 

Applicants will be notified around March 20. 

What happens if I can’t submit my application on time?

If you have an extenuating circumstance which prevents you from submitting your application in time, you may reach out to academic.aus@mail.mcgill.ca as soon as possible.

Is there a valedictorian for the Fall ceremony?

No, the Faculty of Arts does not elect a valedictorian for the Fall ceremony.
