Frequently Asked Questions

McGill Arts Frosh is the 2024 Orientation Week for students who are entering the McGill Faculty of the Arts in the 2024-2025 academic year. Organized by McGill students themselves, this themed event serves as an introduction to McGill?s student life and the beautiful city of Montreal! Throughout Arts Frosh, incoming students (aka Froshies) can participate in day and night events designed to foster connections and build friendships with other McGill students. Arts Frosh prioritizes creating a safe, inclusive, and accessible environment for incoming students to create lasting memories in. In addition to the fun, the four-day event aims to highlight all the amazing opportunities and resources McGill provides for its students! Our 100+ Frosh Leaders- upper year McGill students who are trained specifically for this event- serve as reference points throughout Frosh (and beyond!), and are an amazing source of insight for all that McGill and AUS has to offer.

The price for Frosh 2024 is $235 CAD which gives you full access to four days of interactive in-person day and night events. Your Frosh ticket includes?

Arts Frosh 2024 will begin on Thursday, August 22nd and end on Sunday August 25th. Classes begin on August 28th, so Frosh is your chance to make friends, get to explore the city, and have fun before the hard work begins!

Frosh is for students entering their first year of university at McGill in the Fall, transfer students, and students who are on exchange!

At every Frosh event, be sure to have your Frosh bracelet and Frosh Shirt, as these will be used to identify your ability to access the events. In addition, be sure to bring your McGill Student ID, as well as a valid piece of government ID to each venue. Finally, we strongly encourage you to bring along the Frosh Mug provided in your Frosh package, as it is a sustainable way to enjoy the drink of your choice.

In addition to these McGill essentials, we strongly recommend having your phone and a portable charger handy so that you can contact your leaders easily, as well as water, sunglasses, or other essentials that will make these events more comfortable for yourself. The best way to have all of these at all times is to use your Frosh bag, but a fanny pack or tote bag works just as well!

Coordinators are McGill students who have dedicated the summer to planning and organizing Frosh. Aside from ensuring that Frosh runs smoothly, coordinators are also trained to help address any concerns you may have or redirect you to resources as needed. Coordinators are available to all participants throughout the week of Frosh. Coordinators will be wearing a blue tank top that reads ?COORD? on the back for you to identify them (they may also be wearing a blue raincoat or purple hoodie at night)!

Frosh Leaders are undergraduate McGill students who are involved in the McGill community. Your 4 designated Frosh Leaders will guide you through the week-long orientation and lead you to events throughout the week. They will be your reference points throughout Frosh, so please do not hesitate to ask them any questions you might have. Your Frosh Leaders were also once Froshies, so feel free to ask them about their Frosh/McGill experience! Frosh Leaders will be wearing purple shirts this year!

O-Staff, or Operational Staff are responsible for helping Frosh run smoothly by carrying out various tasks so you can have the best Frosh possible. They?ll be helping staff the events and the ?chill zones? for you to visit if you need a break! O-Staff will be wearing Neon Green shirts this year!

A Frosh Group is a group of Froshies (you) led by 4 Frosh Leaders. Each group is assigned a number (identifiable by a large sign made by your leaders) and can do all activities together. Your Frosh group will be made on the first day of frosh at poaching!

If you would like to be in the same frosh group as your friends, we highly recommend attending poaching together.

For Frosh you will need to have your McGill student ID issued by the school. In addition, we strongly encourage you to bring a valid piece of government ID, as some venues will require this for access.

The legal drinking age in Quebec is 18, and as such, those who are 18 or older are permitted to consume alcohol during Frosh. If you are not of age, that is okay! Frosh is not about drinking, and you will still be permitted to fully participate in all of the events without the need for alcohol. Froshies who are unable to drink will be issued a Black Frosh bracelet, indicating that you are unable to consume alcohol during the Frosh events.

If you cannot or do not drink alcohol you can still participate in Frosh and have just as much fun! While Frosh permits the consumption of alcohol at its event, the purpose of frosh is to get to know your peers, campus and city. Frosh?s opt-IN policy applies to events and drinking, so do not feel pressured to drink at any point. In addition, each Frosh group will have a designated non-drinking leader (aka a Sober Leader) each day.

Arts Frosh enforces an opt-IN system so you can choose which events you want to go to! Frosh is long and intense, and as such, we encourage you to take care of yourself before all else. Just be sure to communicate with your Frosh leaders!

Yes! You can attend Arts Frosh if you are not in Arts! However, we strongly encourage you to participate in your Faculty?s Frosh to get to know your peers.

The colors of the Frosh Shirts represent the roles that a person plays within Frosh so that they are easily identifiable. This year, Froshies (you)  will be wearing White shirts, Leaders will be wearing Purple shirts, and O-Staff will be wearing Neon Green Shirts. Frosh coordinators will also be identifiable by a patterned blue tank top, a purple hoodie, or in some cases a navy windbreakerIn addition to the color of the shirt, Access Allies can be identified by an orange bandana  and Sober Leaders can be identified by a blue pin.
