(1) POSITION : RESEARCH ASSISTANT

DEPARTMENT : Department of History

PROJECT : Various ongoing research projects

LOCATION : Campus

WAGE : $15/hour

HOURS : 20 hours per week for 12 weeks (Monday April 23 to Friday 13 July, 2012, inclusive).

DUTIES : Researching primary sources, writing summary papers, fact-checking/ proofing, styling up references, and support for conference presentations.

REQUIRED SKILLS :

(2) POSITION : RESEARCH ASSISTANT

DEPARTMENT : Art History and Communications Studies

LOCATION : Arts W-250

HOURS : Winter & spring/summer session 2012; 5-10 hours per week, increasing out of term time

DUTIES : General administrative work
Obtaining images and reproduction rights
Research related tasks

REQUIRED SKILLS :
Familiarity with art historical databases, scholarly
publications, and library collections
Knowledge of word and image processing systems (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Photoshop)
Reliability, attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, high self-motivation

(3) POSITION: RESEARCH ASSISTANT FOR SPRING AND SUMMER
DEPARTMENT:

PROJECT: For a project investigating 19th century socialism as a backdrop to Marx’s Capital. Work would include: searching for sources in the library and on electronic databases, reading and summarizing articles, constructing a bibliography, and preparing essays for journal submission by editing for house style, checking citations, etc.

WAGE: Rate of $12 an hour

HOURS: Approximately 300 hours of work

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Applicants must have a solid background in political theory or philosophy, and be capable of working independently; reading knowledge of French and/or German, and previous research experience, are bonuses.

(4) POSITION : RESEARCH ASSISTANT

DEPARTMENT : HISTORY AND CLASSICAL STUDIES

PROJECT : RELIGIONS and POLITICS in EUROPE’s ORIENTS

LOCATION : LEACOCK BLDG, Rm 827

WAGE : $12.50 / Hour MINIMUM

HOURS : FALL 2011 and WINTER 2012 Sessions; Variable number of hours

DUTIES :
- Language editing in English
- verification of the respect of editorial norms (especially for footnotes) in English and French ;
- correction or creation of chapters’ bibliographies if needed

REQUIRED SKILLS :
- Excellent writing skills in English
- Good command of written French
- Use of Office software
- Solid background in history and/or the social sciences
- An interest for and/or knowledge of the Eastern Mediterranean and Southeastern Europe is an asset

DUTIES :

  • experimental design and implementation

REQUIRED SKILLS :

  • (honours) economics student
  • independence
  • research interest and skills
  • fluency in English and French
  • fluency in Spanish helpful
  • advanced www programming (PHP and MySQL) highly desirable

The Convocation Committee of the Arts Undergraduate Society will select two valedictorians for the Spring 2011 Convocation Ceremony. The Applicant will submit the attached documents by e-mail to Yusra Khan at assistant.aus@mail.mcgill.ca by Thursday March 1st 2012 no later than 5pm.
